The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León (PP), announced during his appearance on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero that the drafting of the basic project for the other 200 social housing units pending construction in Maneje, in addition to the three blocks already underway, could be put out to tender by mid-December.

The Arrecife council ceded the land on which these properties are planned to the public company Visocan so that it would be in charge of building the 200 homes and their distribution. However, while the three plots ceded to the Canary Islands Housing Institute (ICAVI) are already in an advanced state of construction, these other plots had become stagnant

Despite this, for the general budgets of the Canary Islands for 2026, no specific allocation is contemplated for the construction of these new homes, which would be operated under a social rental scheme. "I would have liked there to be 40 million euros to carry out this social housing work," de León stated regarding the lack of budget to build 200 more social homes in the autonomous community's accounts for next year.

After meeting with Visocan, the mayor of Arrecife points out that once the project is put out to tender, he intends to "claim the financial amounts that will allow these homes to be built."In July, Yonathan de León controversially proposed on the morning show *Buenos días, Lanzarote* to cede the construction and operation of these homes to a private company, as is done in cities like Madrid, due to Visocan's lack of response. However, he eventually changed his mind and decided to continue pressuring the public company to move forward with this tender.

At the same time, de León has pointed out that this Wednesday the license to build 46 social housing units on Triana street will be approved in the Governing Board of the Arrecife City Council. The Technical Office already issued a favorable report in mid-November for the construction of these properties on a 1,610 square meter plot
