The Cabildo de Lanzarote has announced the opening of the application period for travel aid aimed at students residing in Lanzarote and La Graciosa who are pursuing higher education in Vocational Training (CFGS), university degrees and official master's degrees outside the island during the 2023/2024 academic year. These grants, with a total endowment of 300,000 euros, aim to cover the costs of air or sea transport on journeys made between August 1, 2023 and July 31, 2024.
The president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, states that "our commitment is to facilitate access to higher education for young people from Lanzarote and Graciosa. With this call, which is also compatible with other aid, we want to help alleviate the economic burden of having to travel outside the island to train."
Deadline to access the aid
The deadline for submitting applications is 15 business days from this Friday, October 25, following the publication of the call in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) of Las Palmas. Thus, interested persons must submit their applications before November 18, exclusively in digital format, through the platform enabled on the website of the Cabildo de Lanzarote https://cabildolanzarote.fulp.es.
Likewise, it is recalled that, to complete the process, it is necessary to have a valid digital certificate, while the Education Area recommends that interested persons submit their applications as soon as possible to allow time to correct any errors and/or lack of documentation.
The Minister of Education, Ascensión Toledo, highlights the relevance of this type of aid for young students on the island. "We know that for many families, travel costs are an obstacle when it comes to accessing studies on other islands or on the peninsula. For this reason, the Cabildo continues to support measures that make higher education more accessible, offering the necessary support to our students."
Requirements and required documentation
Among the requirements, applicants must be residents of Lanzarote or La Graciosa and be enrolled in higher education studies in Vocational Training (CFGS), degrees or official master's degrees in educational centers outside the island, whether public or private.
Students must submit, together with their application, proof of enrollment, payment of the same, a valid registration certificate, and ownership of the bank account where the aid will be deposited, the maximum amount of which will be 400 euros.
The Cabildo de Lanzarote thus reiterates its commitment to the training of its young people and encourages all students who meet the requirements to submit their application within the established period.
