The current mayor of La Laguna, Ana Oramas, will assume this Tuesday in Congress the position left vacant by Paulino Rivero, candidate of the Canarian Coalition for the Presidency of the Government, who this Monday promised his position as regional deputy.
Oramas, who was in fourth place on the list led by Paulino Rivero for the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the 2004 general elections, will take office as a deputy at 4:00 p.m. -local time- in the Lower House. Laura Díaz, from La Palma, who occupied the third position on the aforementioned list, has been the one who has given the possibility of accessing the Chamber to Oramas, who in the municipal elections of May 27 managed to reach the Mayor's Office of La Laguna with an absolute majority.
Ana Oramas was born in July 1959, is married and has a daughter. She has a degree in Economics from the University of La Laguna and has a dense political and professional career behind her. She has been director of the Reciprocal Guarantee Society of Tenerife and counselor of Caja Canarias. In the political field, she has been a regional deputy, Deputy Minister of Public Administration of the Government of the Canary Islands and, for eight years, she has been mayor of San Cristóbal de La Laguna.
