The first vice president of the Board of the Parliament of the Canary Islands and former spokesperson for CC in the Congress of Deputies, Ana Oramas, and the candidate of the Canarian Coalition to the Congress of Deputies for the province of Las Palmas, María Fernández, supported last Thursday the candidacy of Emilio Machín, claiming what they consider "necessary and vital" for the future of Lanzarote and La Graciosa: "a seat in the Senate with the name of CC to fight for the rights of both islands."

In a marathon day that culminated with a meeting with public and organic officials, affiliates and supporters of the nationalist formation, Oramas and Fernández learned firsthand about some of the problems faced by different sectors of the island. Sectors that stated that they "do not feel heard by the current government, and conveyed their situation requesting urgent help from the representatives of CC", who took good note.

So did the CC candidate for the Senate, Emilio Machín, the Lanzarote representative on María Fernández's provincial list, Cristina Calero, and the island secretary of the Canarian Coalition, Migdalia Machín, who participated in all the meetings.

Throughout her visit, Ana Oramas highlighted the strength of an island "that has a team of brave men and women to work for the people from the different institutions."

In addition, Emilio Machín assured that "he knows the reality of Lanzarote perfectly" and that "he is clear that his priority will be to work from Madrid thinking about the Canary Islands and his island."

After the meeting with Optuna (Organization of Producers of Tuna and Fresh Fish), Oramas highlighted "the importance of Machín being able to continue defending the demands of the fishing sector", from which many families live throughout the Canary Islands but also in Lanzarote, who "do not know what the future holds for them after the end of the agreement with Morocco and its consequences." "It is only fair," she insisted.

María Fernández, for her part, highlighted her conviction that "the Canary Islands can not only say its future but also that of Spain", and insisted that "only with nationalist representatives in Madrid can problems be addressed that derive from poor management in issues as important as irregular migration, inflation, double insularity or the situation of the primary sector", to name a few.

"I cannot understand how Emerlan, for example, is not heard and lacks elementary and basic issues to attend to the continuous arrival of migrants to our coasts," she said after the meeting with members of the NGO who explained "their need for greater material and human resources", and demanded "an update of security and emergency plans, as well as the development of coordination protocols."

"We have committed to demanding that the Government of Spain cover these needs with European Funds because we are the southern border of Europe." "We must demand money to be able to provide resources to islands like Lanzarote to continue with humanitarian rescue and emergency work on the high seas," said Fernández.

In the same line as her party colleagues and taking stock of the day, Migdalia Machín stated that "if we want Lanzarote and La Graciosa to move forward, we need nationalist voices in the Senate and in the Congress of Deputies."

Thus, she stressed that for Lanzarote and La Graciosa it is necessary to "move away from the models established by the parties of state level" and thanked "the support of Ana Oramas and María Fernández to the Lanzarote candidate for the Senate."

"We have very important problems whose solution depends on our work", said Emilio Machín, who stressed that "what CC seeks is to have the representation that gives us the necessary strength to work for Lanzarote, La Graciosa and the Canary Islands, and for all those groups that today demand actions from us, because until now no one has given voice to their demands and their requests," he added.

"Only with CC in the Senate can the inequality of opportunities that Lanzarote and La Graciosa have with respect to the peninsula be compensated," concluded Machín.
