Members of the Maulli2 Feline Association have gathered this Thursday, September 3, at 09:00 AM, in front of the Municipal Office of La Graciosa, with the objective of publicly demanding a solution for the situation of the cats and feline colonies on the island.

During the gathering, the Association has conveyed to institutions and public opinion its concern about the current situation and the need for concrete, responsible, and sustainable measures to be adopted to guarantee the well-being of the cats and, at the same time, promote neighborly coexistence and the protection of the fauna and natural environment of La Graciosa.

Under the slogan Solution for the cats of La Graciosa!, Maulli2 has defended "the need to address the problem through adequate management of feline colonies, opting for measures such as sterilization, health control, identification and tracking of the animals, and adequate regulation of their feeding and care".

Delivery of signatures to the Teguise City Council

As part of this citizen initiative, the Maulli2 Feline Association has also proceeded to register the signatures collected in support of this petition, addressed to the Teguise City Council. "The signatures represent the support of citizens who consider it necessary for the competent administrations to intervene and work together with animal protection entities and residents to find a solution that allows for the ethical and organized management of feline colonies," they point out.

From Maulli2, they consider that the situation "requires a willingness for dialogue and collaboration, avoiding confrontations and seeking a balance between the well-being of the animals, citizen coexistence, and the conservation of the island's biodiversity". The Association demands that "the signatures be taken into account and that this initiative serve to promote a concrete action plan for the cats of La Graciosa, adapted to the specific characteristics and needs of the island territory".

"We want a solution, not to look the other way"

The Maulli2 Feline Association points out that its objective is not to generate conflict, but to contribute to finding a real and lasting solution. "We want the cats of La Graciosa to be managed responsibly and, at the same time, for our fauna to be protected and good coexistence to be guaranteed. We believe that both things are compatible and that, with willingness and coordination, we can find a solution," says María de la Paz Hernández Morales, president of the Maulli2 Feline Association.

The entity thanks all the people who have supported the initiative with their signature and encourages administrations, neighbors, associations, and other involved groups to work together to achieve a solution that benefits the whole of La Graciosa.
