César Manrique's twin sister, Amparo Manrique Cabrera, passed away this Tuesday at the age of 99. "This sad loss affects us all to some extent, due to the special significance that the Manrique surname and family have for the people of Lanzarote, forever united to the artist's legacy," said the president of the PP in Lanzarote, Ástrid Pérez, who was the first to send a note of condolences.
In that note, Pérez conveys "to all the family, friends and relatives" of Amparo Manrique "her regret" and that of her party colleagues for this loss. In addition, the senator for Lanzarote, Joel Delgado, has also sent a statement conveying his condolences "to his brothers, Carlos and Juana Manrique Cabrera, to his children and all his family, friends and relatives."
"A few months before the centenary of César's birth is commemorated, this is undoubtedly a very sad moment in which a feeling of loss is heightened for everyone, because the Manrique family has always known how to keep the personal testimony and the artist's legacy alive and latent," he says.
Condolences from the PSOE
The island secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, also wanted to convey, "on behalf of the Socialist Party and her own, her condolences to the family and friends of Amparo Manrique, the sister of our most universal artist, César Manrique, for her death."
"César's memory continues to be present among the people of Lanzarote thanks not only to the Foundation that guards his legacy, but also to the dignified presence of his family, which constitutes a permanent example of César's values," said Corujo.
The socialist leader lamented that the death of Amparo Manrique almost coincides in time with the artist's centenary. "This almost coincidence forces us to reflect on the earliness of César's death and to regret not having been able to have him among us for longer," she concluded
