The Councilor for Social Welfare of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Marci Acuña, responds to the accusations of the socialist Isabel Martín, former head of the area, regarding the Day Center of La Graciosa, who assured that this space has been operating since April although the new government group inaugurated it last week.
During a press release, Marci Acuña added that "the elderly and dependent people of Lanzarote and La Graciosa will always be among the priorities of the current Government team, and regrets that the former head of the Area, Isabel Martín, attacks the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort for addressing a demand from the elderly community of the eighth island."
Regarding the inauguration of this space when it was already in use. Acuña defends that “the objective of the inauguration ceremony of the Day Center last Friday was to stage the use agreed with the society of La Graciosa regarding facilities that were once ceded to the Cabildo for use as a Senior Center.” He also criticized that “the previous Government group at no time contemplated this activity, deciding to allocate it to the needs of the Security and Emergency Consortium or leisure for minors without attending to the elderly beneficiaries of La Graciosa.”
“This Government group has done justice to the users who demanded this service and that will mean that the elderly receive the necessary care and health care they deserve,” he reveals according to his criteria. “The improvement made to the facilities seeks to restore the social dignity that the previous Government group did not want or know how to guarantee to the elderly of La Graciosa,” Acuña considers.
In addition, the councilor reminds the former councilor that, in 2015, the then president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, signed an agreement with the Religious Congregation Company of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, for the transfer of the property for a period of ten years, that is, until 2025, which stated that in said space “activities typical of a Day Center for elderly residents on the island of La Graciosa should be carried out.”
