More than 40 towns on the island have once again been left without water, this time due to a power outage. This has been announced by Canal Gestión Lanzarote, which explains that this Wednesday there was an interruption in the power supply to the desalination plants of the Díaz Rijo Desalination Center, in Punta de Los Vientos, which has led to a reduction of 9,600 cubic meters in the daily production of desalinated water.
This incident has forced Canal Gestión to suspend the supply of drinking water in the usual rural areas during this day and until 12 noon on Friday, when the supply will be restarted progressively. According to the company, "the interruption aims to level the reserve tanks that, despite registering a recovery during these last weeks, are still at the limit, given the limited production capacity and the still significant level of tourist occupancy that results in high consumption".
Once again, the rural areas affected by the interruption of supply are: Tahiche, Nazaret, Las Cabreras, Teguise, Los Valles, Teseguite, El Mojón, Guatiza, Los Cocoteros, Mala, Charco del Palo, Tabayesco, Arrieta, Punta Mujeres, Haria, Maguez, Guinate, Yé and Orzola, in the north; San Bartolome, Mozaga, El Islote, Tao, Tiagua, Tinajo, Muñique, Soo, Yuco, La Vegueta, La Santa, El Cuchillo and Caleta Caballo, in the center; Guime, Montaña Blanca, Tias, Conil, Tegoyo, Masdache, Macher, Uga, Yaiza, La Degollada, Las Breñas, Playa Quemada and El Golfo, in the south.
Both the Consortium of Lanzarote and Canal Gestión Lanzarote point out that "they regret, once again, the inconvenience that this interruption of supply may cause to the subscribers of the service".
In addition, they have once again recalled "the obligation to have a reserve tank of drinking water, in accordance with article 8, section K of the Regulations of the Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Service on the island of Lanzarote".
