Wolfgang Deisig, the German who is exhibiting the exhibition "Design Traces. Lanzarote-Berlin-Chicago" at the Casa de Los Arroyo, will award scholarships to two young people from the island to do design internships in his studio in the German capital. For Deisig, this represents "a small thank you to the island of Lanzarote, which has contributed so much to the success" of his work.

The exhibition, which opened this Friday and can be visited until March, was attended by the President of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, the Mayor of Arrecife, Manuel Fajardo Feo, and the President of the Society for the Cultural Promotion of the Canary Islands in Europe, Isidoro Sánchez. Wolfgang Deisig's work focuses on industrial design, especially on products such as office furniture, taps or pedestrian vehicles.

During his speech at the opening of the exhibition, the President of the Cabildo stated that "this genius has managed to make the creation of office furniture elements considered by many as authentic works of art".

San Ginés praised the work for being "full of talent and genius" and described it as "appropriate" that Lanzarote be chosen as the setting for presenting the exhibition, since for a quarter of a century Wolfgang Deisig "has been a Lanzarote native by adoption". During long annual seasons he enjoys his refuge in Costa Teguise, where he imagines objects that only fit in his ingenuity and that, with the expertise of a craftsman and the precision of a Swiss watch, become possible, palpable and tangible", said San Ginés.

Lanzarote, a "suitable place for creativity"

For his part, the designer, winner of international awards in both the United States and Germany, stated that "Lanzarote is a highly suitable place for creativity", where he achieves the necessary inspiration to start and promote his projects, which he then shapes in his Berlin studio, before moving on to industrial production in Chicago.

The exhibition is also scheduled to be exhibited in Tenerife, once it concludes in Lanzarote. The exhibition can be visited from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Casa de los Arroyo, on Avenida Coll number 3, in Arrecife.
