The beginning of Carnival in Arrecife is giving a lot to talk about. In this case, uncivil attitudes of citizens have been denounced after the celebration of the festivities. On this occasion, the Tabaiba Collective criticized the state in which the César Manrique sculpture, located in the city center, woke up last Sunday. "It is the graphic definition of what we respect on this island the figure of César Manrique and everything he fought for", they have revealed through their Instagram account.
According to 'Residuos Lanzarote' on their Facebook, that morning 720 kilograms of mixed waste were collected, including cans and glasses thrown on the floor, on the benches and near the bins. In addition, they wanted to thank the work done by the City Council's cleaning service. "Thank you guys, they did a spectacular sweeping and washing job", they published this Monday on the social network.
From the Tabaiba Collective, they urge the population to maintain the cleanliness of public spaces and to raise awareness and responsibility. "Please, let the party not be an excuse to be slobs", they added. The waste accumulated in the strategic areas of the capital, close to the sea, can generate environmental problems. "With the wind of these days, the garbage can end up in the sea and contribute to the generation of microplastics, one of the worst plagues of our time", added the collective.
In addition, users have been quick to react to the images published on Facebook by the account 'Residuos Lanzarote'. Citizens complain about the lack of neatness and consideration of the people of Lanzarote. "It is not the respect for César Manrique, it is only the respect for the island where we live, it costs nothing to throw things in the bins that are there for that", they point out.
