The jury of the Isla de Lanzarote Awards and Distinguished Tourism Awards granted by the Cabildo through Turismo Lanzarote, made up of representatives of public and private entities that make up the Foreign Promotion Society (SPEL), unanimously agreed this Thursday to award the Isla de Lanzarote 2021 Award to the airline Volotea.
Likewise, the jury decided to award the Distinguished Tourism 2021 awards to Líneas Marítimas Romero, in the Company category; to IFC Canoe Ocean Racing World Championship (the Sea Kayak World Championship held on the island), in the Event, Cultural and/or Sports Events category; and to chef Luis León, in the Personality category. In addition, it decided to award three Special Mentions to the two centenaries of the birth of César Manrique Cabrera (1919) and José de Sousa Saramago (1922), as well as to the group of health workers of the Canary Health Service (SCS) of the Lanzarote Health Area.
After congratulating the winners, the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, gratefully acknowledged "the great effort made by each and every one of the winners in such a difficult moment as the one we have had to go through", while recalling "the centenaries of the birth of the universal Lanzarote native César Manrique and the universal Portuguese José Saramago", highlighting that "the validity of their work and their thinking remain alive thanks to the work carried out by the foundations created by them to preserve and keep their legacy alive". In addition, she highlighted that both "contribute to qualify the tourist and cultural offer of the island through the spaces they keep open in Tahíche, Haría and Tías, and the activities they develop".
For his part, the island councilor for Tourism Promotion, Ángel Vázquez, also congratulated the winners and highlighted that "thanks to Volotea's determined commitment to the Lanzarote destination, even in a time of such uncertainty as the present, a market as attractive as the French one, due to its spending capacity and respect for the environment, has become in this difficult period one of the most important for our island".
