A day enveloped in solemnity was experienced by Uga this Thursday, May 15, the day of San Isidro Labrador, patron saint of the town, who participated in the evening in the religious service presided over by the parish priest of Yaiza, Jonathan Almeida, and then went out in procession through the central streets of the southern town together with the figure of the Saint, thus Uga honored its patron saint on the main date of the celebrations that end this Friday.
The Vocal Group of Yaiza, in the mass, and the Municipal Band of Yaiza, in the procession, enlivened the community meeting with their music. The festivities of Uga stood out for the participation, joy and sense of belonging of neighbors dedicated to the tradition and admiration of San Isidro, patron saint also of the primary sector, an essential productive activity in the life of the town.
The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, and the councilor of Festivities, Daniel Medina, led the municipal representation that was next to parishioners and companions. The City Council publicly thanks the participation of the town in these patron saint celebrations that mixed religiosity, art, folklore and tremendously emotional moments such as the proclamation of Félix Mingo Tavío and the discovery of the sculpture in homage to Joaquín Rodríguez 'Pollo de Uga', legend of the Canarian fight.
The Institution also recognizes the collaboration of the members of the festival committee, the involvement of neighbors in the organization of the events, the work of municipal personnel and the preventive services of the Local Police of Yaiza, Civil Protection Yaiza and the different security and emergency bodies that ensured citizen tranquility.
