The transfer of the first foreign minor from the Canary Islands to the Peninsula, specifically to Extremadura, since the migratory contingency was declared, has been paralyzed after verifying that through forensic tests he is over 19 years old, EFE sources from the Prosecutor's Office have reported.

This young Moroccan arrived in Lanzarote on September 10 in a fishing boat that caught fire when it was on the coast of Órzola and, for the Canary Islands, it was the first express relocation established by the Royal Decree that declares the migratory contingency on the island.

The sources have explained that the file for the transfer of this young man was complete, except for the forensic bone tests to determine his age, since this royal decree, which gives 15 calendar days to carry out the relocation process, indicates that they will be carried out in the destination community.

Apparently, this Tuesday from Extremadura it was alerted that in the file there is a statement from the young man in which he stated in one of the interviews that he was born in 2005, so he demanded that the transfer be canceled. The Prosecutor's Office ordered the urgent performance of bone tests and these determined last night that he is indeed over 19 years old, according to sources.

They add that this situation has surprised the Government of the Canary Islands and all those involved in the drafting of this file because the young man on several occasions declared before the National Police that he was born in 2008, so it was presumed that he was 17 years old. The decree with the age of majority will be signed this Wednesday, which will determine his access to state resources.

Judicial sources have indicated that the 15-day period is unaffordable to complete a file and the best interests of the child are always taken into account.
