With great solemnity, the residents of Titerroy celebrated the festivity of their Patron Saint Joseph the Worker. At eleven in the morning, the celebration of the Eucharist began, presided over by Clemente López, parish priest of San Antonio María Claret in Altavista and Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Valterra, and assisted by the titular parish priest of San José Obrero, José Antonio Molina.
The Choir of San Francisco Javier, directed by Librada Márquez, was in charge of providing voice and harmony to the liturgical celebration, also counting on the active participation of the parishioners.
In such a special festivity, the homily was pronounced by the celebrating priest Clemente López, who delved into the important role that Saint Joseph has in the church and in work. Every May 1st, the Catholic Church celebrates Saint Joseph the Worker as the Patron Saint of Workers, a day on which the founding of the world labor movement, World Labor Day, is commemorated. It was Pope Pius XII who instituted the festivity of Saint Joseph the Worker in the year 1955, in the presence of a large group of workers gathered in Saint Peter's Square in the Vatican.
After the Eucharist, the procession through the streets of Titerroy began, led by the Music Band La Unión Musical de Lanzarote, directed by Professor Alfonso Duro Cabezón, followed by the image of Saint Joseph the Worker surrounded by the celebrating priests, municipal authorities and parishioners.
Upon returning, the image of Saint Joseph the Worker made its entrance into the church with the musical chords of the band and the applause of the parishioners.
