Tías will participate in the ICI's activities against fatphobia with three murals

The Tías City Council will participate with three murals, made by Leticia Martín (Marsoc), in the activities that the Canary Islands Institute of Equality (ICI) of the Canary Islands Government is preparing to celebrate the II International Conference on Fatphobia and Aesthetic Violence against Women. The Departments of Equality and Culture, managed by Nicolás Saavedra and Pepa González, are collaborating in this initiative.

The Councilor for Equality, Nicolás Saavedra, points out that the three murals, which are being created with natural dyes such as cochineal in Plaza El Pavón, “will be completed on April 29, the day on which the international conferences will be inaugurated and the basic guide will be presented with the presence of Kika Fumero, director of the ICI, and Magdalena Piñeyro, author of the guide.”

The II International Conference on Fatphobia and Aesthetic Violence against Women will be inaugurated in Tías on April 29, at 11 a.m., with the presentation of the mural in Plaza del Pavón and, later, with the presentation of the Basic Guide on Fatphobia, at 12 noon, at the Tías Municipal Theater.

The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, the director of the Canary Islands Institute of Equality, Kika Fumero, the author of the guide, Magdalena Piñeyro, the Councilor for Equality and Diversity, Nicolás Saavedra, the Councilor for Culture, Pepa González, and the author of the mural, Leticia Marsoc, will be present.

Conference program

Although the inauguration will take place in Tías on April 29 in person, the conferences, which are international in scope, will be held in streaming from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on May 5, 6 and 7.

According to the ICI, on May 5 there will be an introduction to fatphobia and the approach to its intersection with employment and racism.

On May 6, International No Diet Day, health professionals will talk about the physical and mental dangers of diets, providing information to take care of health and body.

Finally, on May 7, the II Conference will close in person with the play “Kabaret Gordo”, by Komando Gordix, followed by a theater-forum that will allow sharing the emotions produced by the play.
