The Platform for Decent Housing of Lanzarote has denounced the "critical situation" of a man who is going to be evicted next Friday, November 15 and who "is currently hospitalized in the Molina Orosa Hospital as a result of a serious lung infection"
According to the Platform, Juan Teneria, who also suffers from a "serious physical disability", since "he lost his legs years ago and moves in a wheelchair", will be evicted from the garage where he is living in Valterra, "whose rent he has been paying with the modest pension he receives."
Given the imminence of the eviction, the group affirms that "the volunteers of the Platform helped Juan to collect all his belongings, keeping his work tools and selling the furniture that he could not take to his next house." "That is why right now the garage is practically empty, and in this way Juan will have to inhabit it these days, in his convalescent situation after hospital discharge, he points out.
To this situation, the Platform for Decent Housing of Lanzarote affirms that "it must be added that, although the Government of the Canary Islands promised to find him an official protection house in the face of the eviction on the 15th, with just two days left for the date, Juan has not received any official confirmation, so he does not know if he will have a roof under which to sleep from that date."
It is for all this that the Platform for Decent Housing in Lanzarote demands "the institutions of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands not to abandon Juan to his fate." "Today it is him, tomorrow it could be anyone. Our obligation as a society is to help those who cannot fend for themselves. Juan needs us, let's live up to it," he concludes.
