The Ahora Canarias federation has denounced "the military deployment of the Sixth Fleet of the United States Navy" north of La Graciosa. It affirms that these military maneuvers "are affecting air traffic with the Canary Islands."
According to a statement, "The United States and Morocco have deployed some naval units" north of the Canary Islands, between twelve and 50 nautical miles north of the island of La Graciosa, including "the participation of one of the flagships of the American war machine, the USS Dwight Eisenhower aircraft carrier."
"The operations are included in the guidelines of NATO, in which Spain plays a supporting role due to the proximity of the Canary Islands and the Rota base in Cádiz, one of the two headquarters of the Sixth Fleet in Europe," it adds.
It details that the maneuvers involve "5,000 soldiers, with the aforementioned aircraft carrier, missile cruisers, the 22nd destroyer squadron, with fighter planes and helicopters, as well as Moroccan naval and air units, which are part of the collaboration with Morocco, one of the great allies of the United States in the area, with the addition that under the mandate of Donald Trump, Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara was recognized."
"These military maneuvers are affecting air traffic with the Canary Islands, especially connections with Spain and other destinations on the European and African continents," asserts Ahora Canarias, which states that "according to air sources, in recent days several planes have had to suddenly divert their routes, as they encountered US fighter jets in the vicinity."
To these "incidents," it points out that we must add "the warning from ENAIRE, the Spanish air control operator, about the risk involved in the Saharan zone near the islands due to the military conflict between the Sahrawi Arab Republic and Morocco."
For Ahora Canarias, it is evident that "the African continent is the main objective, as it possesses important strategic mineral resources that represent a third of the world's reserves of uranium, oil, gas, cobalt, tellurium, manganese, etc."
"Our society has a legitimization of historical order, because in the Referendum of March 12, 1986, it voted no to NATO, because it has always demonstrated determination against war, and because the Canary Islands are a people of PEACE," declare Ahora Canarias, which affirms that it will continue "demanding for our land an International Statute of Neutrality, with a formal declaration of the Canary archipelago as a neutral territory, according to the terms of public international law, a right that should be included in all laws, Statutes or Constitutions that affect it.”
