The surfing community of Lanzarote has paid tribute to Didier Willow, the Belgian athlete who died on March 29 while surfing on Famara beach.
In a video distributed on social networks by photographer Vince Cooke, you can see how dozens of people, with roses in hand, left the Famara Pier out to sea on their surfboards. The audiovisual piece accompanies the images of the tribute, which took place last Saturday, with the well-known song Wish You Were Here by the group Pink Floyd.
Among all the attendees, they created a circle, resembling Hawaiian tributes, and said their last goodbye to the surfer.
Didier Willow, known as 'Didi', was 59 years old and was a resident in Lanzarote but of Belgian nationality. Rescuers found the athlete's body, along with his broken surfboard and a strong blow to the face, on March 29.
