The wind gusts exceed 70 kilometers per hour in Lanzarote, which will continue to intensify with force

During these last few days, the trade wind has been strongly felt in Lanzarote and La Graciosa. Such has been the intensity that Lanzarote has registered, so far on Monday, gusts of wind of more than 70 kilometers per hour in some areas, according to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Although Aemet has not activated any alert for this situation, the Canary Islands are on pre-alert for strong surf since this Monday due to waves that can reach two and a half meters in height.

Specifically, 71 kilometers per hour have been reached at Lanzarote Airport on two different occasions, at 09:00 and 11:00. This is one of the areas where the wind has blown the most, with an average intensity of 60 kilometers per hour since Sunday.

For its part, in the municipality of Tías, gusts have reached 66 kilometers per hour at 05:00 in the early hours of this morning. The gusts remained above 60 kilometers per hour throughout the night and on Monday morning, according to Aemet.

In the rest of the areas of Lanzarote, the gusts have been somewhat less intense. In Arrecife, a gust of 65 kilometers was recorded at 20:00 on Sunday, while in Tinajo and Haría, 59 and 53 kilometers per hour were reached, respectively.

As for Playa Blanca and La Graciosa, gusts of up to 51 and 53 kilometers per hour were recorded, respectively.

Prediction for the coming days

For this Tuesday, clear skies are expected with cloudy intervals in the west, mainly in the early and late hours. There will be light dust haze at high levels. As for temperatures, they are expected to experience few changes, with lows of 20 degrees and highs that it is not ruled out that they may locally reach 30 degrees in the southern half.

The wind will blow from the northeast, moderate, strong in inland areas with occasionally very strong gusts, especially during the early morning and at the end of the day.

The forecast for Wednesday will be similar. Clear skies with cloudy intervals in the west, in the early and late hours, as well as light dust haze at high levels. 30 degrees will be reached again in southern areas and the wind will blow from the northeast, moderate, strong in inland areas without ruling out occasionally very strong gusts, especially during the night.
