The VIII Volcano Wine Week will kick off next Tuesday the 15th in San Bartolomé and for four days, it will be "a meeting point between winegrowers, winemakers, restaurateurs, consumers and wine lovers in general." Unlike other editions, what will not be available this time is the traditional award of the distinction as "Honorary Member and Silver Grape of Lanzarote Wines", due to the situation the Regulatory Council is going through.
As explained during the presentation of the conference, this award, which is given to recognize those people, entities or institutions that have stood out for their contribution to the development of the sector, entails a plenary agreement of the Regulatory Council, which on this occasion has been impossible to adopt. It should be remembered that the Council's Plenary had to be dissolved after the resignation of several of its members, in the midst of a controversy between the list of winegrowers and that of winemakers.
Currently, the Council is in the hands of a manager, until the elections scheduled for next September are held, so it has not been possible to hold the vote to award these distinctions.
"However", as highlighted in the presentation, the VIII Volcano Wine-Lanzarote Week will have many other activities scheduled for this event, which has been held since 2006.
A wide program in honor of wine
The Wine Week will begin with the pairing day, where, with the help of sommelier Gustavo Palomo, you can taste dishes made by the Head Chef of the Tourist Centers, paired with Lanzarote wines chosen for this day.
The program for these days will continue with training actions, which include presentations to learn about complementary activities derived from agricultural activity, as well as "tools for a rural Business Ecosystem, by two experts who already coordinate projects of these characteristics".
The round table that has been left as a final culmination will be made up of professionals and experts from different areas who, from their point of view, will share their opinion about the Lanzarote wine sector and the prospects for the future.
At the end of the round table, on Friday the 18th, the time will come to close the conference with the Wine Festival. According to the organizers, it will be "an ideal opportunity to strengthen ties and taste the quality products of our wineries, but above all, it will serve to toast so that the future of our wines continues to be on the path of excellence."
The VIII Volcano Wine Week is an initiative launched by the Lanzarote Wine Regulatory Council and is subsidized by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). In addition, on this occasion the San Bartolomé City Council, the César Manrique Foundation, the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers collaborate.
