The Varadero of Puerto del Carmen will be "shielded" for two consecutive weekends, due to the festivals scheduled for the 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th to celebrate the patron saint festivities. Specifically, the Civil Guard and the Local Police will carry out specific controls at the entrances to the premises, in which drugs or any sharp object that could cause an aggression will be seized.

"There will be a personal search, like at the airport," said the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, on Radio Lanzarote – Onda Cero. In addition, he explained that of the four entrances to the Varadero, "only two will be open", where the controls will be carried out.

"Anyone who wants to pass an object not in accordance with the party, will be deposited in a container and taken to the landfill. That's how it is, so that no one is caught off guard," says the mayor.

"At the festivals there will be Civil Guard, Local Police, Canarian Police, Civil Protection and the City Council's cleaning service, which will guarantee the collection of waste during the night," Cruz pointed out. He also recalls that this type of control was already carried out in some carnivals of the town, prior to the pandemic, and that it is done "to prevent someone from entering the premises in an uncontrolled manner."

Likewise, the mayor stresses that during all the festivities there will be closed streets and others that can be circulated in one direction only. "It is always about giving priority to pedestrians, and also to try to disturb residents as little as possible," he adds.

"The influx will be massive, more than in the last festival of 2019. In addition, the tourist occupancy of that area is overflowing," says the mayor.

The mayor recommends going to the festival by bus or taxi

José Juan Cruz has taken the opportunity to recommend to all those who want to attend the festivals of Puerto del Carmen, to do so "walking, by bus or by taxi."

"The parking lots are what they are, we have 500 enabled in the vicinity of the Civil Guard, and then there are only the private parking lots of the shopping centers," he adds.

As for taxis, Cruz points out that the municipality has 107 licenses enabled, although he assures that he will communicate to the councilor of the area "to take it into account" so that there is no shortage of them.

It should also be noted that the Cabildo of Lanzarote announced this Thursday that it will enable a special bus service in the early mornings of the 6th, 7th, 13th and 14th on line 3, which connects Puerto del Carmen with Arrecife and Costa Teguise, and on the internal line of the municipality that connects the tourist town with Tías.
