On the occasion of International Tourist Guide Day, the Association of Official Tourist Guides of Lanzarote (APIT Lanzarote) held an event last Friday, February 22, together with APIT Fuerteventura and the Spanish Confederation of Associations and Professional Federations of Tourist Guides (CEFAPIT), in which the work of the César Manrique Foundation was distinguished with the 'Mention of Honor for Tourist Excellence' for its "commitment and good work" with the group.
"CEFAPIT gives annual awards to museums and entities with which we have good relations, there have been three previous ones that went to the Sagrada Familia, the Primate Cathedral of Toledo and Santa Teresa de Jesús, and this year there was a general assembly in Tenerife in December and it was decided, given the centenary of César Manrique and the good treatment we always receive from the Foundation, to give it to them", explained the president of APIT Lanzarote, Ángel Cabrera, the association that proposed the candidacy.
The event took place in the José Saramago room of the César Manrique Foundation in Arrecife and was also attended by María Dolores Albelo, secretary of the Spanish Confederation of Associations and Professional Federations of Tourist Guides. During the event, the documentary 'Maestro de Obra', dedicated to the figure of Luís Morales Padrón, who was a collaborator of César Manrique, was also screened.
In addition to presenting the recognition to the César Manrique Foundation, the group of tourist guides denounced in the act the "intrusion" they suffer in the development of their work and that they have been highlighting on previous occasions, according to the president of APIT Lanzarote.
