The Tanit Museum of San Bartolomé celebrated this Thursday an emotional tribute to Don José Ferrer Perdomo on the occasion of his 89th birthday. On the outside of his birthplace, a commemorative plaque was unveiled that recognizes his extensive work as a teacher, oenologist, politician, writer and historian, in addition to highlighting his role as co-founder —together with his wife, the artist Remy Quintana— of the Tanit Ethnographic Museum and as the author of the heraldic shield of the municipality.
During the ceremony, one of his sons read some heartfelt words that reviewed some moments of the honoree's life, highlighting his dedication to the community and his vocation for teaching. The dream shared with his wife of creating a museum that would rescue and preserve the history and identity of Lanzarote was also remembered.
The event brought together family, friends and neighbors, who celebrated the life of José Ferrer and his tireless commitment to the culture and memory of the island.
