The University School of Tourism celebrated this Monday the opening ceremony of the 2014-2015 academic year, to which 80 new students are joining this year, who will join the almost 300 who are part of the university community in Tahiche.

The event was presided over by the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Paulino Rivero; by the Vice-Rector of Students and Employability of the ULPGC, Nicolás Díaz de Lezcano; the Minister of Education and Culture of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Emma Esther Cabrera Toribio; and the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, as well as the Academic Director of the EUTL, Eva Crespo, who gave a summary of the report of the previous academic year, after the opening speech by the regional president.

For his part, the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, thanked in his speech the training work of the School's teaching team and celebrated the good tourism data, "which offer young students a new and more hopeful panorama for labor integration as future professionals." He also launched a reflection to the students on "the importance of a positive attitude and a smile" in the work they perform, as an indispensable complement to their training level.

Oswaldo Betancort also thanked the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Paulino Rivero, "for fulfilling his promise to financially support the University School project, after years of demands." "Today, the support of all institutions is more necessary than ever, since without it, neither the quality, nor the excellence, nor the continuity of this great educational work can be considered, which has no other objective than to offer the maximum training to our young people, as preparation and knowledge for the world," declared Betancort.

The inaugural conference of the event was offered by Jimmy Pons, a well-known speaker, lecturer, event moderator and communicator on issues of business innovation for the management, sustainability, creativity, promotion, technology and marketing of companies and destinations in the 21st century, who offered the attendees an Inaugural lesson entitled "From smartdestinations to smartpeople, as a differentiating element of tourism in the Canary Islands".
