The Sara Animal and Plant Shelter has denounced a new case of negligence with animals. The Local Police of Tinajo alerted Sara on Saturday that a dog had been found sheltering in a garage. The agents called the shelter because at first glance "the dog seemed to have been the object of unlimited cruelty." "They thought he had been burned, because his body had open sores and his terror of humans was excessive," they pointed out from Sara.
Sara's staff discovered that he had not actually been burned but that "most likely" he suffered from mange, "a skin disease that if treated does not have to be fatal, but if it reaches extremes of irresponsibility in its treatment it can cause death." This dog, a rottweiler mix, has been named "Rompeolas" (Breakwater).
"Rompeolas" arrived at the shelter "with a hunger that showed he had been without food for days." "He is terrified, trembling even when you caress him, because it is possibly one of the first he receives. He doesn't know how to walk on a leash and can hardly stand up. We assume that this approximately one-year-old dog was locked up somewhere without light and without the necessary care for his proper development. Obviously his skin problem has not been treated and has reached these limits of suffering for him," they denounced from Sara.
From the shelter they ask the same question again: "What kind of person had this animal in these conditions? Why are those who know cases of this type hibernating in the most extreme insensitivity?". From Sara they have assured that every day they experience "cases of abandonment and irresponsibility." "Our quota of surprise has no limit, because when it is not one thing it is another," they insisted. And it is that they have even found the case of an owner who wants to adopt an animal that he abandoned in the shelter itself months ago. "These are totally incomprehensible actions," they insisted.
"Despite the fact that the Lanzarote society has shown greater awareness, there are still pockets of ignorance mixed with a lack of courage and a lack of feelings of love for others. We ask those who are still sleeping to wake up from the lethargy of insensitivity," they insisted from the shelter, from where they wanted to thank the Local Police of Tinajo "for their rapid diligence and for the interest shown in this case."
