The Santa María de los Volcanes school in Arrecife is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, former students and teachers celebrated a party this Friday, with many moments of reunions and emotion. A center that has been run by Las Dominicas until 2009, the year in which the Nazarene missionaries arrived.
The afternoon began in the school's assembly hall, where videos with the history of the school and photos of the different graduating classes were shown. Hilda Betancort, a teacher for several decades, took the floor on behalf of the faculty, recalling some anecdotes that made the audience laugh. "We have always been a great family," she emphasized.
On behalf of the former students, Amelia Torres was in charge of addressing the attendees. Torres emphasized that "there are more than 50 reasons to celebrate this anniversary." In her speech, she recalled some of the experiences lived in the classrooms and some of the teachers who marked the lives of many generations of women and men from Arrecife.
Later, a small tribute was paid to Lolina Curbelo, a sports teacher for several decades. And finally, music and a snack were enjoyed.
