Arrecife will recover the Queen of Carnival contest this year, but finally there will only be three candidates on stage, compared to the six that the City Council expected to have when it announced the return of this event.
According to the statement sent by the City Council, only the registration of three applicants has been confirmed, presented by the designers Irasema, Renné Modisto and Jaime Romero.
In addition to recovering this contest, the City Council also highlights that this year the stage of the Islas Canarias park and its surroundings will return "as one of the hot spots of the carnival night, with the installation of a tent for the performance of groups and orchestras".
The other epicenter of the mogollones will be El Almacén, a traditional masquerade dance space, where the stage and stalls will be installed.
Los Lola and other artists
The musical offer includes the performance of the popular band from Gran Canaria, Los Lola, who will review their eighties repertoire on Friday night in the Islas Canarias park and on Saturday morning in the same environment, as the soundtrack of the porteño Carnival.
Luis Deseda will be the other star guest artist at the Arrecife Carnival, who will liven up the Queen's Election gala. For her part, the transvestite Kika Lorace will do her thing in the election of the Drag queen, in an evening that gains followers every year.
"The rest of the Carnival proposals, which will take place between February 22 and March 5, is the usual at this time; the festivities will be opened by the proclamation of the Intoxicaditos, the murgas will launch their poisoned darts against everything that moves; the parade of floats will bring together organized groups with masquerades on the Vía Medular and the burning of the sardine will put the final touch to the Carnival with mourning and tears", summarizes the Councilor for Festivities, Víctor Sanginés.
Meeting with the murgas
On the other hand, Víctor Sanginés met on Thursday afternoon at the fairgrounds with representatives of the murga groups that will participate in the contest, in order to inform them of some technical changes that are intended to "result in better acoustics of the space".
They also learned about the decision of the Arrecife City Council to charge three euros for access to the final of the event. The collection will be used to pay the prizes to the murgas themselves.
