Tarik Lakhal, Youssef Tamar, Abdelbassat Bensa'd, Abdeljalil Fardi, Boujemaa El Allam, Abelhouahed Mache, Abdelhafid Chaqui and Ouassim Dagouch are the names of eight of the nine Moroccan immigrant men who died after the boat they were traveling in capsized in the early morning of November 6 in Costa de La Laja, a rocky inlet of the stretch of coastline located between Caleta de Caballo and Caleta de Famara, in the municipality of Teguise. Another man who was traveling with them in the boat also died but has not yet been identified, so his coffin has not been taken to the mosque. Four immigrants from the same expedition managed to save their lives.
The Muslim community of Lanzarote has given this noon, just one month after the tragedy, the last farewell to the eight people identified in the prayer held in the mosque located on Zaragoza Street in Arrecife, in the neighborhood of La Vega, one of the three places of worship of the Muslim religion that is located in the capital of Lanzarote. In the coming days the bodies will be repatriated to Morocco and handed over to their families in the cities of Safi and Nador, where they came from.
