The Management of Health Services of Lanzarote, awarded for its attention to the prison population

Representatives of the Health Services Management receive the Bronze Medal for Penitentiary Social Merit

The Management of Health Services of the Lanzarote Health Area, which reports to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, has received the Bronze Medal for Penitentiary Social Merit, an award that recognizes the work of the health professionals of the island in charge of caring for the prison population of the penitentiary center and the social insertion center.

This mention is granted by the General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions every September 24 on the occasion of the celebration of its patron saint, La Merced.

The Secretariat has made special mention of the work carried out by the health services during the Covid-19 pandemic, in which the health professionals of the Management played "a valuable role in providing support to the prison population and the workers of the penitentiary center, both in the taking of samples and in the performance of tests, in the vaccination process and in the implementation of preventive health protocols."

For their part, the beneficiaries of the award have appreciated this distinction that recognizes "a work that, without a doubt, contributed to monitoring the cases of covid-19 in the penitentiary center and to avoid its propagation among the prison population and the workers themselves".

The manager of Health Services, José Luis Aparicio, affirms that this recognition "shows the sensitivity of the penitentiary center towards the work of the health personnel".

For her part, the director of the Lanzarote Penitentiary Center, Antonia Chica, showed her recognition to the "invaluable" service provided by the health professionals of Lanzarote, "always attentive to the demands and needs of the prison population of the penitentiary center and the Ángel Guerra social insertion center".
