The Güime Neighborhood Association responds with humor to accusations of xenophobia after the demonstration

The residents are against the installation of a migrant center with capacity for 400 people in El Polvorín

Demonstration of neighbors and politicians in Güime

The Güime Neighborhood Association has responded with humor to the accusations of xenophobia after the demonstration called last Tuesday afternoon against the installation of a camp for migrants in the town of San Bartolomé.

Specifically, it has reproached the PSOE for a statement it issued the following day and where it treated the representatives of the Canarian Coalition, the Popular Party and Vox as xenophobes for encouraging hatred towards foreign people. In addition, the mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, has denied that this center will be built in Güime, but is open to it being installed in another part of the municipality.

The aforementioned Association has ironically assured that, from this moment on, they will hire a security service to avoid "at any cost" that any political representative, militant or "any excessively motivated sympathizer" attends their mobilizations. In addition, he joked about putting "mandatory distance" with these parties.

At the same time, he has highlighted the autonomy of its members and has indicated that it "has no political component" nor is it a "transmission belt for any party". Likewise, he has pointed out that they are "moderately trained adults with an average intelligence more than sufficient to be able to dispense with the brilliant thinking minds of the local political class that makes us see the light".

In this line, the Güime Neighborhood Association has insisted that no political party could call off that concentration because "they did not call it".

Thus, he has also highlighted the concern of the Vientos del Jable Neighborhood Association of Playa Honda for the possible installation of this temporary camp in the municipality, with capacity for 400 people.

To conclude, the group of neighbors has defended that it did not call off the concentration due to the "different versions" that were offered from the Municipal Government Group about the soil tests that were carried out in El Polvorín de Güime.

For this, the coordinator of the neighborhood platform José María Torres Lara has highlighted that they are collecting signatures in the municipality and on the island against the installation of this camp. Meanwhile, they have added that they do not trust the municipal representatives or the central politicians and have alluded to the lack of information on this issue.

"We have been living for 20 years with a sword of Damocles on a plot that was stolen from the municipality and that this time we are going to recover", he concluded.
