The rains of last Saturday, April 12 in Lanzarote have caused havoc in several hotel establishments in Costa Teguise. Specifically, three of them will not be able to open their doors, for the moment, coinciding with the Easter holidays.
The extra-hotel establishment that will take the longest to resume its activity is Apartamentos Trébol, on Avenida de Las Palmeras, which will not open its doors until June 1st.
The most damaged hotel has been the HD Beach Resort & Spa Lanzarote, located on Avenida Islas Canarias, which saw how the water from a ravine "entered from behind and exited" in front towards the beach. In this case, its owners have taken advantage of the damage caused by the rains to advance a remodeling that they had planned.
Meanwhile, the Paradisus by Meliá Salinas Lanzarote has also been forced to close. In this case, the establishment was able to relocate guests to the Sol Meliá, in Puerto del Carmen, another hotel in the chain. In addition, other establishments such as Santa Rosa and Sands Beach have also been affected, but are not completely closed.
Faced with this situation, the deputy mayor of Teguise, Rita Hernández, has highlighted that they are going to try to "take measures once we know exactly what needs to be done." Thus, "from the technical office we are going to see how everything can be solved."
Meanwhile, the general secretary of Comisiones Obreras in Lanzarote, Alejandro Domínguez, has reported in the morning show Buenos días, Lanzarote that the affected companies are already studying with the unions to establish temporary employment regulation files (ERTE) during the time that the adaptation works of the different facilities last.
Domínguez has highlighted that in most of the hotels it is expected that workers can rejoin within a month, except in the HD, where the union is studying options so that employees can keep their jobs or even be transferred temporarily to another establishment in Playa Blanca.
