The Security Consortium, on the occasion of the International Volunteer Day - celebrated this Monday, December 5 - recognized the work carried out by the Civil Protection volunteers of the seven municipalities of Lanzarote.
On this occasion, the Mayor Guerra house in San Bartolomé, and under the slogan “Solidarity through volunteering”, was the setting chosen for an event in which, in addition to the “applause” to Civil Protection, diplomas were awarded from the I Course of admission and training of Civil Protection volunteers that has taken place during the last months.
With the assistance of representatives from the Cabildo, City Councils, Canary Health Service, Army, Local Police, Firefighters, Red Cross Emerlan, Voluntis and the Security Consortium itself, one of its most emotional moments was the granting, to the emergency technician Benjamín Nieves, of a badge in gratitude for his “infinite dedication and professionalism” for more than 30 years, as stated by the manager Enrique Espinosa.
The president of the Consortium, Marcos Bergaz, during his speech highlighted “the values represented by volunteering in general, and Civil Protection in particular: solidarity, compassion, empathy and respect for others, are in their DNA. Our sincere applause for the commitment they demonstrate every day for the common good.”
For his part, the mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, stressed “the importance of the Civil Protection corps, to whom we show enormous gratitude for the work they do for the municipality, the island and its people. We will always be indebted to you, you will always receive the support of the Corporation that honored me in presiding.”
As a culmination of the event, each Civil Protection team was given “resuscitation equipment” to act in case of emergency, in addition to a Christmas basket with the best wishes for 2023 to be a good year for the security and emergency family of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
