The Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium will acquire a new fire truck, after the vehicle that suffered an accident in July on the Mácher road was left "quite damaged". The cost of the truck exceeds 200,000 euros.

The Security and Emergency Councilor, Soraya Brito, explained on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero that the new vehicle will take time to arrive, because "it has to be assembled in the factory." "It is not buying a car and that's it, it is much more complicated," said the councilor.

The fire truck that overturned after colliding with a car in Mácher was not completely unusable, but it cannot be used as a "first response vehicle." "The first response one has to be the most effective we can get, because it has to be able to reach the accident in the shortest possible time," she explained.

Therefore, it has been decided to acquire a new one, the price of which is "expensive." "Fortunately, we have reached a good agreement with the insurance company, which is going to give us cash and will help us a lot, because the price can be around 200,000 euros," the councilor indicated. And it has to be adapted to the "needs" of Lanzarote, because "not all services are the same in all parts of Spain." "In Lanzarote, we have a type of accident in El Risco, for example. The truck has to be equipped to respond to everything."

For the damaged vehicle, the Consortium has several budgets for "its possible repair", but it seems that it will opt to leave it as reinforcement, since the "first response" one cannot have "difficulties".

The Consortium has also acquired a "complete" extrication team, something that according to the councilor was "essential", since the entity has two but in some parts "they are obsolete". "We have a great extrication team, which achieved a fifth position in the Spanish Championship," recalled Brito, who has opted to give them "the necessary tool to carry out their good work in Lanzarote."
