Starting this Tuesday, the company Mimara Residencial SL will host the services of the Doctor Domingo de Guzmán Residence, and the Day Centers of Las Cabreras and La Graciosa. Until now, the centers were managed by AFA Lanzarote.
This change takes effect after the bidding promoted by the Cabildo of Lanzarote was formalized last February. The highest island body awarded the services to the company for a value of 4,237,041 euros.
The contract will be valid for two years, starting from the signing of the agreement. In addition, it will have the possibility of being extended to three years, with a maximum duration of five.
The Councilor for Social Rights of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Isabel Martín, has stated in statements to La Voz de Lanzarote that this change is "positive" and that it will mean a public contribution of 234 euros per user per day.
Among the novelties announced by the highest island body are intergenerational activities, at least four activities per month in each center, a present nutritionist for 15 hours per week, psychological care, therapeutic programs in the pool, or the option of double menu choice in each meal.

Since 1998, the organization Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's Patients and Other Dementias (AFA Lanzarote) managed the Las Cabreras center. In 2015, the La Graciosa center and, subsequently, the specific center for patients with Alzheimer's and other dementias Domingo de Guzmán.
This Monday was AFA's last day in charge of the centers. As of this Tuesday, the Catalan company Mimara Residencial SL will provide the service. The transfer will be uninterrupted and the same staff will be maintained.
"AFA Lanzarote does not disappear, but we will continue to serve families and users," the association said in a statement. This entity will continue to offer services in other parts of the island, from home help or in the Therapeutic Center of Titerroy, among others.
