During this Saturday, July 29, the hermitage of Tegoyo, in the municipality of Tías, has recovered an ancient tradition and has opened its doors to host the offering to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This church was built by the marriage of Mariano Stinga and Andrea Rodríguez in the year 1863. Many families from the Tegoyo and Conil region are sentimentally linked to this church because they have been baptized or married at whose altar is located a beautiful canvas with the figure of Jesus carrying his heart in his hand. On the afternoon of this Saturday, hundreds of residents have gone on pilgrimage from the church of La Magdalena, in Conil, to the hermitage of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Tegoyo. The pilgrimage was presided over by the Gaida Folkloric Group and accompanied by the Guarache folkloric group, from Tenerife, specially invited to be this weekend at the central events of the Conil patron saint festivities.
The hermitage of the Sacred Heart hosted the offering, after opening its doors in a special way, as recalled by the parish priest of Tías, Agustín Lasso, that for him it was also his first festivities officiating this offering and word of God inside this beautiful church faithful reflection of the traditional architecture of Lanzarote. All the pilgrims have lived and enjoyed this pilgrimage, despite the high temperatures. Many families in the region look forward to this date to fulfill their promises. Carts, wagons, parrandas and pilgrims dressed in typical costumes traveled the entire route from the town of Conil to the church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The festive events, which have had the participation of many residents and visitors, included on Friday night the XII Folkloric Encounter "Juan Ramón Rodríguez Sepúlveda" which featured performances by the folkloric groups Giada, from Lanzarote, and Guarache, from Tenerife. The ninth edition of Baile de Taifa y Candil with the parrandas Ahí va la Cosa de Tenerife, from Tenerife, "Pal´Porrón" and Los Gurfines del Puerto.
Friday night also featured the celebration of the fifth edition of the Conil 2017 Song Festival, where several professional and amateur singers competed in order to win the golden microphone, with a cash prize of 300 euros. In this festival performed the transformist Arlette Rivas, the Ballet of the Comparsa Sur Caliente, the transformist Yarelis Vizcaíno and the singer Jennifer Hernández, winner of the Festival in its edition of last year 2016. The Councilor for Festivities of the City Council of Tías, Francisco Javier Aparicio Betancort, has positively valued the celebration and the good reception of these festivities, in addition to congratulating the Conil 2017 Festivities Commission for the organization of the same.
Salvapantallas Concert
On Sunday, the last day of festivities, the group Salvapantallas will offer a concert at 13 hours, where they will be accompanied on stage by the group Sin Recreo. At 18 hours a puppet theater will be offered for children and all families, by the Patakabra Company, with the staging of the play El Rey Bufón. A children's comedy of circus theater with puppets where adults, like the smallest children, will enjoy with their narration.
In the afternoon the neighbors of Conil will demonstrate their culinary skills to win the prize for the best prepared tortilla. Prizes will also be awarded for the best homemade desserts.
