Between June 3 and 7, the Canary Islands Diving Unit will deploy a Diving Operational Team (EOB) composed of eleven people in Lanzarote, with the aim of carrying out tasks related to the surveillance and knowledge of the maritime environment of the islands of the archipelago and improve their training in the planning and execution of sustained diving operations outside their base.
During the deployment, the EOB will be established at the island's Military Airfield and from there will travel daily to different points of the island such as Puerto de Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen, Puerto de Órzola and Marina Rubicón, with the intention of gathering information from the area that allows it to act as quickly as possible in the event of a future emergency or
operation in Lanzarote.
Within the planned activities, dives will be carried out for training in various capacities such as navigation and underwater orientation, the search and location of underwater archaeological heritage through the use of side-scan sonar, divers or underwater robot, as well as underwater filming, or underwater repairs on ships and port facilities through surface supply. Different health exercises will also be carried out to train personnel, among others, in the procedures for recovering an unconscious diver, their evacuation, and treatment in a hyperbaric chamber in case of suffering from decompression sickness.
The Canary Islands Diving Unit, based in the Las Palmas Military Arsenal, is made up of 19 people with permanent diving (EOB) and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) operations, available 24 hours a day to be deployed within their area of responsibility.
