The Cabildo of Lanzarote organizes a screening of the documentary "Our submarine geology", which was born as a result of a project that began last year to monitor the status of the Submarine Places of Geological Interest (LIG) of the UNESCO World Geopark Lanzarote and Chinijo Archipelago.
The screening of this documentary, made by the photographer Javier Alonso, will take place on Wednesday, November 30, starting at 7:30 p.m., in the Assembly Hall of the first island corporation. Admission will be free, until the capacity of the room is full.
As explained by the Councillor of Geopark Lanzarote and Chinijo Archipelago, Nicolás Saavedra, the documentary “Our submarine geology” includes images filmed during the months that the project lasted, whose objective was to monitor the state of conservation of the submarine LIGs included in the inventory carried out through an agreement signed between the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME).
The project consisted of the collection of photographic images and underwater recordings in the bottoms of Lanzarote, La Graciosa, Montaña Clara, Alegranza and Roque del Este, as well as the completion of a series of files of the locations chosen by a team led by Javier Alonso and integrated by the photographers Rafael Mesa and Jesús Javier Medinaveitia.
These images were already shown to the public in an exhibition that, under the name "Submarine treasures of geological interest: a walk through the surprising submerged landscape of the Geopark", was exhibited last summer and in whose inauguration the documentary “Our submarine geology” was also screened.
Now, this work is exhibited again "with the aim of continuing to disseminate the important geological heritage that the island has not only on its surface, but also in its seabed, and that citizens learn to value, respect and care for it”, concludes the Councillor of Geopark Lanzarote and Chinijo Archipelago.
