The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved this Monday the call for subsidies for operating expenses in agricultural holdings corresponding to the year 2025, with an initial allocation of 50,000 euros, which may be increased if there is budgetary availability.
These aids are part of line 1 of the Strategic Subsidy Plan 2023-2025 and are aimed at supporting farmers in Lanzarote and La Graciosa in the face of the high costs of agricultural materials and services, aggravated by the circumstances derived from double insularity.
“Supporting our primary sector is protecting our identity, our territory and our food sovereignty,” said the president of the Cabildo and Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Oswaldo Betancort. “With these subsidies we not only help farmers to continue producing in difficult conditions, but we also take care of the agricultural landscape that makes us unique in the world.”
The call includes subsidies of up to 70% of the cost of the eligible activity, with a maximum amount of 3,500 euros for professional farmers and 1,050 euros for amateur farmers, establishing a minimum spending threshold of 1,000 euros to be eligible for the aid. In addition, a minimum farm area of 3,000 m² is required.
The aid will not only cover the purchase of materials and supplies such as stone, sand, picón, fertilizers, seeds or phytosanitary products, but also external services such as the transport of water tanks, advice, machinery, and even the hiring of own personnel.
Beneficiaries must be registered in at least one of the following registers: REGEPA, ROPO, REAC, REGOE, Regulatory Council of the D.O. Lanzarote or the Census of the Tax Agency. The processing will be in a competitive concurrence regime and professional farmers will be valued with priority, followed by organic farmers registered in REGOE and young farmers.
The applicants will have a period of 15 business days to submit offers once it is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas. The application forms will be available to interested parties at the offices of the Insular Agrarian Service located on the Tahiche – San Bartolomé road km 1 and at the electronic headquarters of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
