Tribute to the Last Basket Maker

The Cabildo of Lanzarote presented this Sunday, May 29, at the Farmer's Monument, an audiovisual production in homage to the basket maker Eulogio Concepción Perdomo.

The Councilor for Crafts of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Carmen Guadalupe, and the Councilor for Crafts of the City Council of Haría, Evelia García, were in charge of presenting it.

The Councilor highlighted the figure of Eulogio Concepción as the basket maker of Lanzarote, unique in his work and recognized for the art of molding the pírganos of our palm trees. “This video is our tribute to a career that has left the art of Lanzarote and Haría crafts in the best place in all of the Canary Islands, and is an example for future generations in an activity that is becoming less and less practiced,” Guadalupe stressed.

Eulogio Concepción was born in Güímar, in Tenerife, on July 17, 1933, although his roots are in Haría. He has been an influential figure in island crafts, as well as in other areas such as agriculture. Concepción is known as the last basket maker of Lanzarote, “even having to cut the palms to stock up on pírganos due to the lack of pruners.”
