Members of the United Actions Association and Colombian citizens residing on the island have gathered today at the doors of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to carry out the reading of a manifesto in the face of the serious social situation currently experienced in Colombia.

The president of the Cabildo, M.ª Dolores Corujo, and the vice president Jacobo Medina, accompanied by other members of the Corporation, have also participated in the act and have shown their support and solidarity to the Colombian people. "We are with all of you and we are going to walk this path of peaceful vindication together," said Dolores Corujo, who also expressed her "deepest affection, solidarity and empathy to the Colombians who are part of our town of Lanzarote."

Subsequently, the United Actions Association proceeded to read the manifesto to show "its rejection of the repression and the disproportionate use of force by the Colombian armed forces towards the peaceful and legitimate mobilizations of the population against the reforms promoted by the Government."

Likewise, they also expressed their solidarity with the families of the deceased, injured and with all the people of Colombia, for the serious situation of deterioration of human rights and security, with forced displacements, attacks against communities and ethnic leaders.

It should be noted that the UN Office for Human Rights, the European Union and the Spanish Government have joined this international condemnation, who have condemned the violence of the Colombian security forces against the protesters and have called for calm, the cessation of violence and dialogue as the only way to redirect differences in Colombia.
