To mark the International Day of Older Persons, which is celebrated every October 1st, the Senior Citizen and Intergenerational Relations Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has launched an emotional video tribute, inspired by José Saramago's poem about old age, to celebrate and recognize the fundamental role that our elders play in society.
The video, which seeks to highlight the importance of the experience and wisdom of our elders, features the participation of Francisco José Navarro and other elderly women from the island who recite fragments of the Portuguese writer's well-known poem.
"This tribute is a recognition of their life, their struggles and their dreams. We want them to feel proud and valued, because they are an essential pillar of our identity," says the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, congratulating the senior citizen community of Lanzarote and La Graciosa and highlighting their valuable contribution to the community.
Likewise, Nori Machín, councilor responsible for the Senior Citizen and Intergenerational Relations Area, emphasizes the need to promote meeting spaces between generations to promote a more inclusive and enriching society.
"The wisdom that our elders transmit to us is a treasure that we must take care of. Our commitment is to continue working for their well-being and promote intergenerational relationships that strengthen the ties between young and old," he adds.
In this sense, as part of the communication and outreach strategy to the most veteran population, the Cabildo has created a new Facebook page for the Senior Citizen Area, aimed at all people interested in learning about the activities, programs and services that are being developed to improve the quality of life of our elders. This page aims to be a direct and accessible information channel, allowing the community to be aware of the initiatives that are being promoted from the Cabildo.
In addition, a WhatsApp channel has been enabled to facilitate communication with seniors and their families, offering them an agile way to resolve doubts and stay up to date on the news from the Senior Citizen Area.
