On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is commemorated this Friday, November 25, the Cabildo of Lanzarote has observed a minute of silence in memory of all the victims of male chauvinist violence.
“Murders due to gender violence cannot be assumed as something inevitable, so we must continue to raise our voices against this social scourge and combat the discourses that deny this painful reality,” said the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, expressing the firm commitment of the institution she chairs to continue fighting to eradicate male chauvinist violence.
Political representatives and workers of the island corporation have gathered at 12:00 hours in front of the main door of the institution, to show their rejection and rejection of gender violence, which continues to leave dramatic figures in our country.
It should be noted that male chauvinist violence has taken the lives of 38 women so far this year and that since 2003, 1,171 women have been murdered by their partners and ex-partners. Some worrying data to which must be added the 48 minors who have been fatal victims of gender violence in the last nine years.
For all these reasons, the Cabildo of Lanzarote encourages citizens to attend the demonstration called by the Forum against Gender Violence in Lanzarote, in collaboration with the 8-M Feminist Platform, which will take place this Friday afternoon, in Arrecife.
The demonstration will depart at 7:00 p.m. from the Four Corners towards La Casa Amarilla, where a 'performance' will be performed and tribute will be paid to the victims of male chauvinist violence.
