The Cabildo of Lanzarote, in collaboration with the non-profit environmental organization Ecoembes, promotes the selective collection of packaging with 20 new yellow and blue containers installed in La Graciosa.
The Councilor for Waste, Hugo Delgado, went to the Eighth Island to present this project, which facilitates and brings recycling closer to citizens, helping to give a second life to plastic, cans and briks and paper.
“This initiative that we are launching in La Graciosa is in addition to the campaign developed to promote recycling among hotel and restaurant establishments, actions with which we want to keep the island's attractive environment clean and sustainable”, Delgado highlighted.
This increase in containerization is part of the Canary Islands Circular Plan, an initiative developed by Ecoembes together with the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildos and the Canary Federation of Municipalities with the aim of improving the selective collection and recovery of light packaging and paper and cardboard waste in the Canary Islands, with criteria of social acceptance, technical efficiency and environmental and economic viability, in line with regional and European regulations in this matter.
For her part, the spokesperson for Ecoembes in the Canary Islands, Carlota Cruz, points out that “it is essential that we continue working together and make it easier for both paper and cardboard and plastic, cans and briks packaging to have a new life. Only in this way can we move towards a more sustainable circular economy model for all”.
