The Island Sports Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, an area directed by Councilor Juan Monzón, will create a statue in honor of Kenneth Gasque, precursor and architect of the arrival of the Ironman brand in Lanzarote.

“Kenneth undoubtedly represents the birth and growth of Ironman in Lanzarote, and it is our obligation to value his figure,” said the councilor, who greatly appreciates Gasque “his involvement in the implementation of the event on our island.”

The place chosen to house this future statue cannot be other than the place where the event starts and ends every year: Puerto del Carmen. “The coast of the municipality of Tías hosts the bulk of the event, with swimming, cycling starts and finishes, and the marathon taking place there,” said Monzón, who has even held meetings with the Tías City Council to collaborate jointly in the installation of this future statue.

The southern artist Cintia Machín will be in charge of creating this tribute work to Kenneth Gasque. “Machín is a young manufacturer from our island who has demonstrated her very high level when it comes to illustrating and paying tribute to both people and groups,” Monzón pointed out.

The Island Sports Service thus continues to support and promote the presence of the Ironman brand in Lanzarote, valuing those who made it possible for the event to land on the island more than 30 years ago.
