The Cabildo of Lanzarote is considering buying El Mercadillo on Calle Real in Arrecife, owned by Lanzarote businessman Juan Francisco Rosa, and has commissioned the valuation of the property. This has been confirmed by sources from the First Institution to La Voz.
In contrast, the company Hotel Princesa Yaiza SL itself already commissioned the valuation of the same property on its own account and at the beginning of this year, according to a file to which this editorial team has had access. The company Tasaciones Inmobiliarias S.A.U. (Tinsa), based in Madrid, valued this 19th century building in more than 2.5 million euros last March, with two conditions: that it is unoccupied and that it is not protected.
This valuation, apart from the one carried out by the Cabildo, is subject to the property being free of "tenants and/or occupants", as it is currently "occupied by a person other than the owner" of whom no details are known.
This value also depends on the ratification that the property is not protected. It should be remembered that the Mercadillo on Calle León y Castillo was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2006, but a final court ruling overturned its protection. After that, the previous Government group of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, led by Dolores Corujo, resumed the process to protect it again.
The property extends over 746 square meters of land and has a constructed area of 1,492 square meters, according to the cadastre. "Evidently no decision has yet been taken," they insisted from the First Institution. To acquire this space, the Cabildo of Lanzarote relies on the possibility that the institution has to buy properties "of patrimonial interest or historical and cultural values" to preserve the heritage.
