The Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve has proposed to the island's schools to participate in the project Planting the Future to expand training and knowledge about the native flora of the Canary Islands.

This is a one-and-a-half-hour workshop consisting of planting a public urban space, for students, teachers and families who wish to contribute to creating garden areas in Arrecife

The workshop will offer an initial activity to disseminate information about native species, their peculiarities and their potential to create naturalized and friendly environments in the city; this will be followed by the planting itself, which will end with watering the garden. For its future maintenance, several companies on the island have offered to water it periodically

The registration period for schools wishing to participate will remain open until December 20 or until the places are filled. The educational action is aimed at students from fourth grade of Primary to second year of Baccalaureate; the contents will be adapted to two groups, distributed by age.

The Councilor of the Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve, Samuel Martín, encourages the centers to join this training experience that will result in greater collective awareness about the value and beauty of local flora in gardening compared to the invasion of foreign species, and on the importance of incorporating green areas to public plots of the city.

Interested centers can contact the Reserve office, through the address biosfera@cabildodelanzarote.com
