More than 200 boys and girls from all the municipalities of the island participated in the 1st Island Youth Meeting held last Saturday in La Graciosa.

The Councilor for Youth of the Island Council, Aroa Revelo, expressed her satisfaction with the high participation and enthusiasm shown by the young people. "This first Island Meeting has exceeded our expectations. It has been a meeting point where young people and adolescents have greatly enjoyed this privileged natural environment with sports activities, games and good music.”

The day began at 9:30 in the morning with the arrival of the buses to the port of Órzola, from where the participants were transferred to La Graciosa by catamaran. The Parish Hall of the eighth island hosted the Youth Assembly where young people had the opportunity to express their ideas, concerns and proposals. After the assembly, the attendees moved by catamaran to the La Francesa beach, an emblematic place on the island, to enjoy various water activities such as paddle surfing, snorkeling, kayak rides and other games.

After lunch on board the catamaran, the young people moved to El Veril beach to paddle surf and canoe, and to the La Graciosa sports court, where participants were able to do cycling, softcombat and Canarian wrestling, among other sports. The day ended with a foam party with a DJ and a relaxing yoga class that was taught at the Sociocultural Center. The young people returned to the Órzola dock at around 6:00 p.m., thus concluding a day full of activities, companionship and fun.

“The success of this youth meeting”, Aroa Revelo emphasizes, “encourages us to continue working on future projects that continue to strengthen the role of youth in island life.”
