Ten new lawyers have taken office in a "solemn" act celebrated last Friday at the Monumento al Campesino. "The act itself has a very large emotional charge. The space of the Monumento al Campesino was full of family, relatives, friends accompanying the protagonists," recalls the dean of the Lanzarote Bar Association, Carlos Viñas.
"The current educational requirement to become a lawyer is much harder than before," says Viñas. For a student to become a lawyer, they must not only complete a law degree, but must also complete a qualifying master's degree and pass an exam. In addition, "to be a lawyer, you must obligatorily perform this act of possession, whether solemn or not," adds Viñas. "The solemn taking of possession is to swear or promise in the practice of law," he explains.
In this "emotional" event, about thirty lawyers who have dedicated 25 years to the practice of law were also decorated. "It is an exciting act, very important for them, both for those who are starting and for those of us who have been there for 25 years, the illusion of the beginning is very great, but also to stay there," says Viñas.
The act celebrated last Friday at seven in the afternoon was attended by the president of the Spanish General Council of Lawyers, Victoria Ortega Benito, as well as deans of the Canary Islands Bar Associations, representatives of the Civil Guard, the National Police.
