“Because we all need each other sometimes, walk with us against cancer.” This is the message with which the Association of Oncohematological Families of Lanzarote (AFOL) celebrates the IV Edition of “We Walk Against Cancer”, in collaboration with the Teguise City Council.

To commemorate International Breast Cancer Day, and as unfortunately, the usual walk cannot be carried out in a massive way due to Covid-19, AFOL and Teguise have proposed that “we all join together by making a registration and choosing a day and a path through the municipal area of Teguise, always taking into account security and prevention measures against the pandemic.”

From this Monday, October 19 (and until November 19), you can support the fight against cancer in a very simple way: by registering for 10 euros through the website https://www.cronolinecanarias.com/.../iv-caminamos.../, or at the AFOL headquarters (928 81 69 60 ó 606 65 60 46).

Triple Negative Breast Cancer

Half of the money raised will go to research on the antitumor drug for Triple Negative Breast Cancer, a project that is being carried out in the Canary Islands, from CEAMED (Atlantic Center for Medicines) and under the supervision of its president, Dr. Nicolás Díaz Chico, whose research includes that of the drug for Triple Negative Breast Cancer, one of the worst prognosis and that affects young women.

In order for this initiative to be visualized through the networks, participants must share a photo and/or video on Facebook tagging AFOL (@afolenlanzarote) and @Ayuntamiento de Teguise, and including the hashtag #CaminamosContraElCáncer and #YoApoyoLaInvestigaciónDelCáncer.

“Little by little and without crowding”, the AFOL board and the Teguise City Council hope for “the support of everyone in this cause, contributing their grain of sand in the objective of achieving greater involvement by institutions in cancer prevention and reaching a greater number of citizens on the island.”

“We wish AFOL the greatest success in this new call, and also to all the people it serves,” said the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, encouraging “everyone to join this solidarity cause that can save lives,” and showing his firm commitment and that of his government group to “continue offering collaboration to a key association in Lanzarote in actions to prevent and fight cancer, in addition to the moral support it provides to so many women and families to whom they extend their hand.”
