The Arrecife City Council announced this Wednesday the program for the Arrecife Carnival, which kicks off in two days and will feature, among other things, the Buenos Aires Carnival and Tapas Fair on Avenida La Marina, a concert by Soraya Arnelas, the rhythm of Edwin Rivera and the humor of the Trío Zapatista. In addition, as La Voz had anticipated, this year the Carnival Queen Election Gala will be recovered, which will take place on February 8 at the Fairgrounds and will have the artistic direction of Juan Carlos Armas.
"Armas has been the designer of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife gala as well as the creator of the Carnival Queens' costumes, a person linked to the best Carnival galas in the Canary Islands," the City Council said in a statement, in which it announces that the candidates will be presented this Thursday at the House of Culture.
According to the Councilor for Festivities, David Duarte, the objective is to "incorporate a new vision to the gala because the idea is not only to recover this highly demanded event, but to do it with the quality that Arrecife deserves. I am convinced of the professionalism and good work of Juan Carlos Armas".
The program of events is completed with the adult and children's murgas contests, Drag Gala and Parade of Floats, among other events that the city will host between February 2 and 14. The Buenos Aires Carnival, which this year "merges with the Tapas Fair on Avenida La Marina in Arrecife," will be held on Saturday, February 10, and "is expected to bring together more than a thousand people," according to the City Council.
Councilor David Duarte states that the Buenos Aires Carnival from noon onwards "is an attraction for residents and visitors, who this year will enjoy concerts and a fun atmosphere." In addition, the Councilor for Tourism adds that "the Tapas Fair is a unique opportunity for restaurateurs in the area and the revitalization of the city."
The Arrecife Carnival kicks off with the opening speech this Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Las Cuatro Esquinas by musician and composer Maxi Ferrer. According to the City Council, "he is a person linked to the world of Carnival for more than 50 years, a showman who is sure to surprise."
